Merrillan (29 June 1967)
Gibson Gile and son, Bob, left early Monday
morning on a vacation trip to Alaska. They will drive their Volkswagen as far as
Vancouver, B. C., and from there they and their Volks will travel by boat up the
Inland Passage to Skagway, Alaska. At Skagway they will travel by train to White
Horse and then continue by auto to Fairbanks and Anchorage. On their return trip
home, they plan to t ravel by auto down the Alcan Highway. This will all be
familiar scenery to Gib, as he worked on the building of the highway in 1943. In
charge of the Alcan Highway construction during World War II, incidentally, was
Gen. Clarence Sturdevant, a native son of Neillsville.
