Kaplia, Violet (1 SEP 1962)
At an 11:00 a.m. Nuptial Mass at St. Bernard’s Church in Thorp, Miss Violet
Kaplia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kaplia of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), became
the bride of Philip Turenne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Turenne of Thorp, on
Saturday, Sept. 1, 1962. Father Brockman performed the ceremony when the bride
was escorted to the altar and given in marriage by her father.
The bride
chose a very lovely chapel train gown of delustered satin with raised appliques
enhancing the scoop neckline and skirt front. Long sleeves tapered to a point
over the wrist and self-fabric roses enhanced the skirt back. On her head the
bride wore a floral spray crown of rhinestones and pearls with crystal
medallions securing the scalloped edge of the three-tiered veil of English
illusion. She carried a cascade shaped bouquet of a dozen red and white roses
which had variegated carnations accenting them, together with ivy foliage,
stephanotis streamers and Christmas red satin ribbon.
Miss Georgia
Lobacz, the groom’s niece, was the maid of honor, with bridesmaids, Miss Bonnie
Peterson of Owen, a friend of the bride’s, Mrs. Justine Mathewson, the bride’s
sister, and Mrs. Brenda Turenne, the bride’s sister-in-law. They all wore
identical tissue taffeta street length sheath gowns in scarlet. Their scooped
necklines with three-quarter length sleeves accented their fitted bodice. Small
overskirts fashioned with a small bow highlighted their skirts. Matching bands
styled with a bow and petals held their blush veils. They carried a cascade of
variegated carnations which had large white ribbons to contrast against the red
dresses.
The groom wore dark trousers and a white dinner jacket with a
red carnation boutonniere. The attendants also wore white dinner jackets and
variegated carnation boutonnieres.
Serving as best man was the brother of
the groom, Clarence Turenne of Thorp. Groomsmen were Fred Turenne, a brother of
the groom, and Norman Mathewson, a brother-in-law of the groom.
A
breakfast was served immediately following the ceremony in the parish hall. At
5:00 p.m. a reception was held at the American Legion Hall in Thorp which was
decorated for the occasion with red and white crepe paper and white bells.
The bride is a graduate of the Owen-Withee Senior High School and is a
graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing at Marshfield, in August.
The
groom is a graduate of the Thorp High School and now is employed as a truck
driver.
The newlyweds will make their home in Stanley.
