Bogacz, Alex Joseph (20 May 1922 - 17 July 2012)

Alex J. Bogacz, age 90, of Chicago, IL, passed away at the Edward J. Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, IL, on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Don Meuret officiated and burial followed in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery with Alex’s nephews serving as pallbearers. Visitation was held at the church, on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Alex Joseph Bogacz was born on May 20, 1922, in Chicago, IL, the son of Joseph and Sophia (Glab) Bogacz. He was raised in Chicago and educated at area schools. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy on April 7, 1944, and served during WWII until his honorable discharge on March 4, 1946. Alex was united in marriage to Agnes Mroz on July 3, 1948, at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. He was employed as a tailor at Sears & Roebuck, in Chicago, for over 35 years. Alex also served as a Polish interpreter in Chicago courtrooms. He was a member of his local American legion Post in Chicago and in his spare time, enjoyed reading, dancing and riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes, of Chicago; six sisters-in-law: Rose Zuber, Mary Bertram, Theresa (Ralph) Javore, Alice (Ed) Bishop, Margaret Mroz and Helen Mroz; one brother-in-law, Clarence (Alice) Mroz; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Julia Knoll; one brother, Casimir Bogacz; and four brothers-in-law: Stanley Zuber, Albert Bertram, John Mroz, and Chester Mroz.
