Debra K. Amos, age 54, of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away
Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Kindred Hospital in Mansfield, Texas.
A
memorial service was held at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford on Monday,
August 13, 2012, at 11:00 AM. Reverend Dr. Gary Paul officiated. Visitation was
held on Monday, from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial was
at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield.
Pallbearers were Lloyd Mews, Jerry
Mews, Ronald Mews and Todd Mews.
Debra was born September 12, 1957, to
Darrell and Dona Jane (Mews) Schmidt in Marshfield.
She was baptized at
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield on October 18, 1957. Debbie attended
Immanuel Lutheran Church and school, until March of 1967 when she moved to
Abbotsford with her mother and step-father; Gerald and Dona Kollath. She was
confirmed on May 2, 1971, at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. She attended
Abbotsford schools graduating from Abbotsford High School in May 1975.
Debra joined the US Marine Corp on May 10, 1976 serving for 4 years, during this
time she attained the rank of sergeant, and was discharged in May 1980.
On September 20, 1980, she married Sergeant Stephen D. Amos at Christ Lutheran
Church in Abbotsford, after the wedding they returned to Parris Island, South
Carolina. She lived in many Marine Bases finally ending up at Grand Prairie,
Texas where she remained. They had two children born on the east coast,
Christina Diane and Jeremiah Lee Amos.
Debbie and Steve were divorced,
but Debbie remained in Grand Prairie working for Richard Wylie & Associates,
P.C. until the time of her death.
She is survived by her parents, Gerald
and Dona Jane Kollath of Abbotsford; daughter, Christina D. Amos of Grand
Prairie, Texas; son, Sgt. Jeremiah L. Amos of Jacksonville, NC.; grand-daughter,
Sidney Ann Amos of Florida; uncles, Lloyd (Jenny) Mews, Jerry (Marie) Mews,
Ronald (Arlene) Mews, William (Pat) Kollath; aunts, Marlene Rasmussen, Marlene
Mews and several cousins.
Debra is preceded in death by father, Darrell
William Schmidt; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mews Sr. and Mr. and Mrs.
John Kollath; grandmother, Rose Schmidt; uncles, Walter Mews Jr., Doug
Rasmussen; and cousin, Terry Mews.
The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in
Abbotsford is assisting the family with arrangements.
