Zais, Fred (1900? - 14 FEB 1963)
Fred Zais, 62, Stanley
Police Chief and Chippewa County Deputy Sheriff for 38 years, died here this
morning while shoveling snow at St. Anne’s Church.
Mr. Zais was a member
of the Stanley unit of the Wis. National Guard, and was a guard for ten years at
the Presto plant in Eau Claire. He also served as Chippewa County undersheriff
one year, and was custodian of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and the Farmers and
Merchants Bank here.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille, a son
Frederick, Eau Claire; Thomas, Boyd, Racine; three brothers, Maj. Henry, El
Paso, Tex., Paul and John, both of Stanley; two sisters, Leone, Stanley, and
Julia Kerr, Minneapolis; and two grandchildren.
