Peter Gay, 86, a resident of Gilman, passed away at
Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley, of old age and stroke on Sunday, March 3,
1963.
Mr. Gay, a retired farmer, was born Feb. 10, 1877 in Poland. On
June 6, 1901 he married Katherine Jankowicz in Brezezic, Poland. For 11 years he
worked in coal mines in Austria until 1903, when they came to the United States,
settling in Chicago where he worked in the foundry until 1909, when they moved
to Taylor Co., Wis. In 1943 they moved to Gilman where they since resided.
Funeral services were held at Plombon Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 6.
Rev. Anthony Matla officiated and burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Lublin. Pallbearers were grandsons: Walter, Leonard and Robert Gay, Marion
Witek, Daniel Majkowicz and Kenny Kostick.
Surviving are his wife
Katherine, three sons, Edward and Stanley Gay of Gilman, Charley Gay of
Clarendon, Hill, Ill.; four daughters, Frances Rose Gay, Brookfield, Ill.,
(Lottie) Mrs. Paul Kostick, Lublin, (Elizabeth) Mrs. John Witek, Withee,
(Josephine) Mrs. Frank Majkowicz, Chicago, 19 grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Those from out of town attending the funeral were Ted Gay, Owen, Frank Gay,
Withee, Caroline Tecia, Owen, Wanda Kaczor, Withee, Josephine Arndt, Withee, Mr.
and Mrs. Ben Vernig, Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Hank Cieslek, Thorp, and friends from
Thorp and Withee.
