Zajack, Ruth #1 (7 OCT 1956 - 8 MAY 1963)
A 6-year-old Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) girl was killed early Wednesday morning
on Highway 73, north of Thorp.
Ruth Marie Zajack, 6, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Chester Zajack, route 2, Thorp, was killed when hit by a 1956 Chevrolet car
driven by Steve Plecko, 47, Lublin, at about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The accident occurred in front of her home, two and three-quarters miles
north of Thorp on Highway 73 as she crossed the road to wait for the school bus.
She attended Yaeger School and was in the first grade.
Officials
reported the child apparently crossed the road and then darted back into the
right lane in front of the Plecko car, which was traveling south.
The
officers also reported to the Thorp Courier that a car was traveling north at
the time of the accident , but did not stop.
Ruth Zajack was dead upon
arrival at the Stanley Hospital, taken there by the Thorp Ambulance.
The
school bus had not arrived at the time of the accident and is usually due in
front of the Zajack farm at about 7:45 a.m.
