Thompson, Donna (18 MAY 1963)
A double ring ceremony was performed at
Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee on Saturday, May 18th, 1963, uniting in
marriage Miss Donna Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Thompson, Gilman,
and John Backe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Backe, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.). Rev.
Knudsen performed the 2:00 p.m. ceremony and Mrs. Knudsen sang “I Love You
Truly,” accompanied by Miss Louise Hansen. Mrs. V.A. Hansen decorated the altar
and tables with beautiful flower arrangements.
The bride, given in
marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown of silk organza with a short
train, appliqued. The lace bodice featured pearls and sequins with elbow length
sleeves and a tucked panel decorated the front of the skirt. A tiara of crystals
and rhinestones held her fingertip veil and she carried a cascade bouquet of red
and white roses with sprints of lily of the valley and white streamers.
Miss Carol Rogers, a friend of the bride from Chippewa, was maid of honor,
wearing a street length dress of Nile green nylon over taffeta. The skirt was
fashioned with a semi-overskirt with soft unpressed pleats in back. Bridesmaids
were Miss Joan Backe, sister of the groom, of Evanston, Ill. and Miss Beverly
Thompson, sister of the bride, wearing dresses styed identically to the maid of
honor’s, in peach. They all wore crowns of cabbage roses with tulle petals and
pearlized leaves with bustle veils and carried colonial bouquets of Nile green
and peach carnations.
Miss Sherry Eckstrom, niece of the bride, was
flower girl, wearing a floor length gown with a fingertip veil. She carried a
bouquet of red roses in miniature of the bride’s.
Wearing black suits
with black bow ties were Jim Snyder of Eau Claire, as best man, and groomsmen,
Hebert Thompson, brother of the bride, and Robert Bakke, friend of the groom.
Ushers were David Devine, friend of the groom, and David Thompson, brother of
the bride.
A reception following the ceremony was held in the church
hall.
The bride’s mother, with beige accessories and the groom’s mother
wore a gold print dress with white accessories. They each had a corsage of pink
and white roses. Grandmother of the bride, Mrs. Margie Thompson of Bloomer,
Wis., was attired in navy blue with a feathered carnation corsage.
The
bride, a 1956 graduate of Gilman High School, is employed by Midway Hospital in
St. Paul The groom, a 1957 graduate of Owen High School and attended Eau Claire
College, is employed by Remington Rand Univac in St. Paul, where the new couple
will make their home.
Guests attended from Withee, Gilman, Jump River,
Owen, Colby, Menomonie, Wauwatosa, Bloomer, Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire,
Greenwood, Thorp and Cornell, Wis.; Evanston, Ill., Highland Park, Ill., Salem,
Oregon, and St. Paul, Minn.
