Donald W. Fink, 77, Colby, passed away on Friday
morning, Aug. 10, 2012, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield, under the care
of Ministry Home Care Hospice. At the request of his family, a memorial service
will be held in early fall. Details of the memorial service will be posted in
the weeks to come.
Donald Fink was born on June 12, 1935, in Clark
County, the son of Walter and Lorinda (nee Schulte) Fink. He attended Zion
Lutheran Elementary School in Colby and Later from Colby High School. On June
30, 1956, he married Janet Gumz at Peace United Church of Christ, Dorchester.
They owned a hobby farm in the town of Hull in Marathon County. Later they
purchased additional acreage and started D&D Tree farms, which Donald and Janet
co-owned along with their son Doug, and his wife, Marie. Donald was also
employed at various businesses including Wick Building, PCA of Colby, Weather
Shield Windows and Doors, and Northwest Hardwoods. His hobbies included
woodworking, deer hunting, word puzzles, snowmobiling and 4-wheeling. His
passion was being with people. His love of both people and the Christmas tree
farm he owned and operated was very evident to those who knew Don. Operating the
Christmas tree for more than 20 years brought much joy to Don. After his
retirement, he continued to help his son, Doug and his wife Marie, with the
carnival business that they own and operate. Donald was a member of Peace United
Church of Christ.
He is survived by his loving wife Janet, Colby; two
daughters, Debra Koncel, Dorchester and Linda (Doug) Neumann, Unity; one son,
Doug (Marie) Fink, Weyeuwega; his grandchildren, Cathy (Lee( Hansen, Two Rivers,
Kenneth Koncel, Colby, Amanda Koncel, Medford, Michael Koncel, Dorchester, Jeff
Brost, Unity, Jennifer (Russ) Smith, Loyal, Jake (Sara) Fink, and Monica (Fiance
Doug Tice) Fink, Neenah; his great-grandcholdren, Elizabeth, Emilia and Jonah
Hansen, Kassidy Koncel, Anthony Retzlaff, Lilyanna Nolan, Bailee and Carson
Brost, Hannah and Jaden Smith, and Sajid, Madison, Alayna and Kaysa Fink; one
brother, Arnold (Sandy) Fink, Arvada, Colo.; one sister, Donna Fink, Stevens
Point; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by
his parents and a son-in-law, Anthony Koncel.
Memorials are being
accepted in Donald’s name to the Tiny Tiger Intergenerational Center-Companion
Day Services- Marshfield. This organization was very important to Donald and his
