Virgil E. ‘Birdie’ Bue—Mother of Humbird, Wis. Resident

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Virgil E. “Birdie” Bue, 86, of Black River Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Family Heritage Care Center in Black River Falls.

He was born on June 30, 1925, in Jackson County to Edward and Josephine (Nichols) Bue. He was raised in Jackson County, and he married Erma Woof in Blair on Nov. 14, 1952.

Following their marriage, the couple lived in East Troy before moving to Jackson County.

Birdie took correspondence courses to become a journeyman plumber.

He farmed in Jackson County and worked at A.O. Smith in Milwaukee. From 1957 to 1987, he did maintenance work at Ludeman’s South Alma Cheese Factory. He also did various plumbing and electrical odd jobs.

Surviving are four sons, Douglas (Doreen) Bue of Onalaska, Bruce (Debra) Bue and Wayne (Beth) Bue, both of Black River Falls, and Dennis Bue of Grantsville, Utah; two daughters, Susan (Ronald) Laufenberg of Sparta and Dawn (John) Griffin of Holmen; a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Stanley of Humbird; one brother, Benjamin (Hannalore) Bue of Loon Lake, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude and Margaret Bue, both of Black River Falls; and 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma, on Sept. 23, 2008; two sons, Byron and Michael; one granddaughter, Miranda Laufenberg; two sisters, Evelyn and Eunice; and six brothers, Raleigh, Irvin, Thomas, Mahlon, Edward “Charle” and Claude “Johnny.”

Funeral services for Virgil E. “Birdie” Bue will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at Torgerson’s Funeral Home, 408 N. Water St. Pastor Kathleen Jury will conduct services, and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
