Esther F. Haugstad, age 84, of Black River Falls, Wisconsin. died on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Pine View Health Care Center in Black River Falls, Wisconsin.

She was born in Humbird, Wisconsin on June 9, 1926 to Louis and Emma (Reider) Laffe. Ester was raised in Humbird and graduated from the Humbird High School. She attended cosmetology school in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. On May 11, 1948 she married Philip Haugstad in St Paul, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1998. Esther lived in various cities in the U.S., Canada and Cuba during Phil's baseball career. The eventually settled in Black River Falls where they raised their family. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the ELCS. Esther enjoyed music, golfing, waterskiing, bowling and especially spending time with her family.

Esther is survived by one son, Hal (Gayle) Haugstad of Black River Falls, Wisconsin; two daughters, Judy Tulgren of Eau Claire and Nancy Brown of Black River Falls, Wisconsin.; six grandchildren, Lance (Kim) Brown of Parker, CO, Angela Brown of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, Dana (Mike) Rave of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, Nathan (Sarah) Haugstad of Knoxville, TN, Neil Haugstad and Philip Haugstad both of Black River Falls, Wisconsin; six great-grandchildren, Colten, Devon, Abigayle, Annaliese, Clayton and Elijah; a sister, Hilda Sutton of Merrillan, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Herman and Arthur Laffe.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. The Rev. Ramie Bakken officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls.

Friends may call at the Torgerson Funeral Home, 408 N Water St., Black River Falls Sunday from 4:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. and again at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be directed to the Pine View Care Center, and the Black River Falls Hospice.
