Backe, Joan A. #2 (17 AUG 1963)
Miss Joan Audrey Backe became the bride
of David N. Edington in an afternoon ceremony Aug. 17, 1963 in the Nazareth
Lutheran Church in Withee.
Rev. Beryl Knudsen officiated at the service
which was followed by a reception on the church grounds. A buffet supper was
held later at the home of the bride’s parents.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Christian A. Backe of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), and the
bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Edington of Oxford, England.
Miss Judith Fribley of Pana, Ill., was maid of honor, and Donald Caruthers of
Evanston served as best man. Bridesmaids were Miss Janet Henry of Jacksonville,
Ill., and the bride’s cousin, Miss Betty Walters of Wauwatosa.
Ushers
were the bride’s brother, John of St. Paul, Minn. and John Lyons of San
Francisco, Calif.
The groom’s parents were here from oxford for the
wedding. Relatives of the bride from Wisconsin were Mrs. Joe Rodgers of Blue
River; Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Rogers and family of Madison; Miss Carol Walters of
Wauwatosa; and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Walters of Wauwatosa.
Out of town guests
were: Mr. Edwin Goodard, Mrs. Charles Henry; Dr. and Mrs. Edwin Hutchens and
family; Mr. and Mrs. James Kaplan and sons, Lewis and Ernest, Mr. and Mrs. Terry
Rupple and family, and Miss Dorothy Wallace. Also present was Dr. Robert Parr
from Liverpool, England.
Miss Backe was gowned in ivory peau de soi with
side draping embellished with crystal and pearl beading and her veil was secured
by a pillbox matching her gown. She carried a cascade of yellow roses entwined
with white stephanotis. Her attendants were gowned alike in short Nile green
chiffon dresses with flowing panels with matching hats, and carried a bouquet of
yellow roses.
The church organist, Miss Louise Hansen, played selection
from Handel’s "Water Music"
The bride is a graduate of MacMurray College,
Jacksonville, Ill. The bridegroom received his doctorate from Oxford University
and is a chemist at the Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois. The newlyweds
left Sunday evening for a three week honeymoon to the Caribbean. They will
reside at 1116 Darrow Ave., Evanston, Ill.
