Haas, Arthur W. Sr. (17 AUG 1919 - 24 AUG 2012)

Arthur W. Haas Sr., age 92, of Abbotsford, passed away Friday, August 24, 2012, at his home with his family by his side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford. A visitation will be held Monday, August 27, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford, and on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Abbotsford Public Cemetery.

Arthur was born August 27, 1919, in the Town of Mayville in Clark County to William and Edna (Scheelk) Haas.

He received his education from Stetsonville and Dorchester area schools. Arthur was united in marriage to Isabelle Mayr on June 11, 1942, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford. He then proudly served his country in the Army during World War II in the European African Theater from 1942 to 1945.

After returning, Arthur worked as a carpenter and farmed near Unity until retirement in 1980. He loved to help his children whenever needed. Arthur’s famous saying was “If I can’t help my kids while I’m alive, I sure as heck can’t help them when I’m dead”

Arthur was a life time member of the Colby VFW. He enjoyed wood working, traveling, helping his family doing farm work, camping, and enjoying a beer while socializing with family and friends.

Arthur is lovingly survived by his wife of 70 years, Isabelle; his children, daughter-in-law, Joanne Haas of Madison; Joyce (Reggie) Morgison of Virginia, Rita (Richard) Kloehn of Unity, Robert (Marion) Haas of Unity, Leonard (Mary) Haas of Colby, Judy (Dennis) Blazel of Marshall, and Karen (Rick) Block of Medford.

Arthur is further survived by 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, George (Maxine) Haas, William (Marian) Haas, Elaine Schultz, Ella Huckbody, Doris (Bruce) Wussow, and Irene (Jack) Smazal; sister-in-law, Evelyn Haas; and brother-in-law, Harold Baumgartner.

Arthur is preceded in death by his son, Arthur Haas Jr.; grandson, Joshua Block; granddaughter-in-law, Ines Haas; and brothers and sisters, Rose Skwarski, Elmer Haas, Helen Damrow, and Myrtle Baumgartner.

The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the Haas family with arrangements.
