Victor C. “Shorty” Diercks, 83, Greenwood, died on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Christie. Rev. John Warmuth officiated. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Greenwood American Legion Post #238. Pallbearers were Larry Duda, Paul Plautz, Jamie Cliver, Travis Kostick, Tom Djubenski and Dennis Djubenski.

Victor Clyde Diercks was born on Aug. 12, 1920, in the town of York, Clark County. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the town of York. Shorty entered the U. S. Army on Jan. 5, 1951, and served in Korea until his honorable discharge on Oct. 4, 1952. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He returned to Clark County and began working for Alfred Boon, at Boon Construction in Neillsville. He ran the rock crusher and worked at the wash plant until 1965. He married Doris E. Duda on Sept. 23, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenwood, He then went to work for Plautz Brothers in Greenwood until retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a longtime member of the Greenwood American Legion and the VFW Post 2241.

He is survived by his son, Rick (Renee) Diercks, Greenwood; a step-daughter, Shirley (Roger) Kostick, Thorp; a step-son, Larry (Lynn) Duda, Loyal; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris, on April 25, 2003; his step-son, Robert, in 1994; and one sister, Audrey Vandeberg.
