Mr. and Mrs. Dale Lee, accompanied by Dr. Murphy, went to Eau Claire Thursday evening of last week that Dale might enter Sacred Heart Hospital and undergo an operation for relief from an acture attack of appendicitis.

Miss Leah Reindel, accompanied by her brother, went to Marshfield Friday and spent the day with her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Wm. Schoengarth, who was then a patient at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hales, accompanied by Dr. Murphy, went to Marshfield Friday that Mrs. Hales might enter St. Joseph’s Hospital there to undergo an operation for appendicitis.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Thiele of Sheboygan, cousins of Mike Grasser, with Mrs. Frank Chevopulos his niece from Chicago, are here since last week Thursday visiting at the Mile Grasser home.

Noble Downer, Mr. and Mrs. Joel Downer and Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Pietenpol autoed to Melrose Friday and visited at Fay Stratton’s until Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Converse, it will be remembered, are at the Fay Stratton home there and we are sorry to learn that Frank is quite indisposed and under the weather at this time.

Mr. and Mrs. E. Royce and daughter autoed over from Marshfield Sunday and spent the day with the E.R. Wonser family and other friends at the John Pietnpol picnic. Mr. Royce is on crutches and recovering very nicely from the broken limb and other injuries suffered by the kick of a horse some weeks since.

There will be special services in English at the Mapleworks German Lutheran Church this Friday evening at 7:45. The occasion is the examination of six adults in the chief doctrine of the Christian Church. There will also be English services Sunday evening when three adults will be baptized and three confirmed. The candidates for baptism are Mrs. Frilla Sternitzky, Mrs. Martha Sternitzky and Mrs. Edna Sternitzky. Those to be confirmed are William Dankemyer, Mrs. Annie Riedel and Mrs. Elsie Sternitzky. Rev. M. Hasz, the resident pastor, will officiate.

Neil Downer, driving his Ford car home from Unity Sunday with Mr. Rolley in the rain, had the car skid and leave the road near Spokeville, where the road is narrow with a six foot ditch on either side. Neil fortunately was driving very slowly and they took the fall very easily. The car went over on its side was not injured further than a broken wind shield. Autoists coming upon the scene helped Neil and Rolley get the Fliver onto the road again and they got home easily without further mishap, and with no painful injuries.

This is a sort of a topsy turvey world. No one seems to be satisfied. One man is struggling to get justice and another is flying from it. One man is saving up to buy a home and another is trying to sell his for less than it cost to get rid of it. One man is spending all the money he can earn in taking a girl to a theater or show and sending her some valuable presents in hopes that he may eventually make her his wife, and his neighbor is spending all the gold he has saved trying to get a divorce. One man keeps a pistol to protect himself against burlars, while hi neighbor doesn’t keep one for fear of shooting himself or some member of the family. One man pays for his paper because he can read it with greater relish, while another takes it for four or five years without paying a cent, enjoying it hugely all the while. Surely a queer old world this is.
