Alfred
Drinsinger, 84, of Granton died at his home Monay, Sept. 24, 2012.
Alfred
Karl Drinsinger was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Schlesian, Germany, the son of Fritz
and Clara (Spaete) Drinsinger. He arrived in the United States at Ellis Island,
NY, Dec. 14, 1953. He lived with his aunt and uncle, Ida and Alfred Spaete, and
became a United States Citizen June 18, 1959. Also in 1959, he wed Jeannine
Huebner; they were married 53 years.
Alfred went into grocery retail
with Alvin Spaete in 1957, and he learned to cut meat and slaughter from his
Uncle Alfred. He purchased the entire business and started mobile slaughter in
1978 with his son Dale. They closed the grocery when Roger’s Grocery opened, and
they retired entirely June 30, 2006.
Alfred returned to West Germany for
visits in 1962 and 1980. He was a lifetime member of the Granton FFA Alumni, a
member of the Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton and the Granton Park
Board. He was a former Rotarian - Paul Harris Fellow, a former fire chief of
Granton, and he enjoyed playing sheepshead and doing puzzles.
He is
survived by his wife, Jeannine; three daughters, Diane (Gary Fergot) Drinsinger,
Peggy Drinsinger and Nancy Drinsinger; one son, Dale (Janice) Drinsinger; five
grandchildren, Beth (Mark) Peckham, Patrick (Wanda) Schmidt, Ben (friend, Jamie)
Collins, Amanda Drinsinger and Dennis Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Mason,
Chase, Jordan, Gavin and Meecha; a brother Herbert in Germany and a sister,
Helga Uberreiter in Germany; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alfred is also
survived by three step-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, two step
great-grandsons and one step great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded
in death by his parents.
A celebration of Alfred’s life will be held at a
later date.
