French, Lorraine E. (19 APR 1918 - 12 NOV 2012)
Lorraine E. French, 94 of Tahlequah, Okla., formerly of Stanley, Wis., passed
away on Monday, November 12, 2012. Lorraine was born April 19, 1918, in the town
of Mayville, Clark County, Wis., the daughter of the late William and Ida
(Wachsmuth) Jakel. She attended grade school and the first two years of high
school in Curtiss, then graduated in 1936, from Abbotsford High School. She then
attended Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind. and U.W. Stevens Point. Lorraine
then taught school in Clark and Marathon County for six years. On February 14,
1948, she was united in marriage to Hugh French at the Lutheran Parsonage in
Green Grove, Ind. After raising her family, Lorraine kept busy as a library aide
for Clinton Prairie School. After retirement and moving to Stanley, she
volunteered at the D.R. Moon Public Library, Our Savior's Lutheran Church,
Victory Memorial Medical Center, the Historical Society and the A.A.L. Branch
1096.
Lorraine is survived by her two daughters, Lora (Dan) Neldon, of Tahlequah,
Okla.; and Lois French of St. Paul, Minn.; five step-children, Betty Lou
Skottet, Myrna Snell, Deana Bowman, Donna French, and Raymond French, three
grandchildren, Shawn Dayan, Joshua Neldon, and Danae Neldon; and two
great-grandchildren, Mathew and Connor Dayan. Her surviving siblings are
Marguerite Jakel of Abbotsford, Wis.; and William Jakel Jr. of Portland, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh in 1983; two stepsons,
Eugene and James French; one sister in infancy, Emmaline Jakel; and brother,
Bernard Jakel.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Epiphany
Lutheran Church-Stanley, with Rev. Dan Welch officiating. Burial will follow at
Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until time of service
at the church. Plombon Funeral Service-Stanley assisted the family. In lieu of
flowers the family requests that donations be made to Epiphany Lutheran Church
of Stanley, Wis.
