Steinmetz, Marvin E. (19 APR 1929 - 16 NOV 2012)
Marvin E. Steinmetz, age 83, of Curtiss, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012,
at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, surrounded by family.
Marvin was born April 19, 1929, to Henry and Anne (Wagner) Steinmetz in Stanley.
He received his education at Edson Public School. He married Roselyn Janssen in
1951 (later divorced). Before owning and operating a dairy farm outside of
Colby, Marvin owned his own milk route, worked at a luggage factory, was briefly
a manager at Harmony Feed Mill, and worked in carpentry for UBC in Colby. After
farming, he was a school bus driver and began enjoying his retirement.
He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, gardening, doing yardwork with his Cub
tractor, and trying his luck (again and again) with scratch-off lottery tickets.
Marvin is survived by his beloved partner, Kathy Friday of Curtiss; his children
Brian (Sheila) Steinmetz of Dorchester, Karen Hawk (Keith Hogue) of Marshfield,
Kerry (Cathy) Steinmetz of Marshfield, Kay Steinmetz of Syracuse, NY, and Kim
(Gary) Decker of Dorchester; and eight grandchildren (Nathan, Annie, Chad, Sara,
Jennifer, Corey, Justin, and Megan), two great-grandchildren (Alden and Sophia);
and extended family members Jennifer and Jason Friday. He is further survived by
his brothers Kenneth (late Donna) Steinmetz and Henry (Rosemary) Steinmetz; his
sisters Joan (Don) William, Betty (late Duane) Smasal, Caroline (late Rich)
Eslinger, and Eileen O`Donnell.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marie Ruhe, and his son
Kevin.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the
Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. A rosary will be held at 9 AM,
with visitation following until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow the service at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Colby.
