Schilling Karl (7 SEP 1919 - 27 MAR 1963)

Karl Schilling, 43, Route 1, Colby, was fatally injured in a log sawing accident, March 27, 1963, about 2 p.m. A board flew off a conveyor and struck him as he was sawing logs at a portable lumber mill, of which he was part owner, set up at the west edge of Auburndale.

He was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10:30 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby, with the Rev. John B. Pinion officiating at the mass of requiem. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

The pallbearers were Wilbur Becker, William and George Dietel, Elroy Kubs, Leon Sazama, and Floyd Van Dreel.

A general rosary service was held at the Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, Friday evening, preceded by the Catholic Order of Foresters rosary at 8 p.m.

Mr. Schilling was born Sept. 7, 1919 in the town of McMillan, and moved to Colby in 1937. His marriage to Marie Borchardt took place Sept. 1, 1954.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Dennis 7, James 6, Karlene 5, Barbara 3, and Kristine 1; his father, William Schilling, Colby; 2 brothers, William Schilling Stratford, and Vernon Schilling, Milladore; and five sisters, Mrs. Adelyne Siegl, Watertown; Mrs. Leone Kurtz, Clear Water, Fla.; Mrs. Aurelia Kuhrt, and Mrs. Dorothy Fahy, Milwaukee; and Sister Mary Ervin of West Allis.

His mother preceded him in death Dec. 21, 1959.
