Bruss, Amelia M. (24 FEB 1883 - 19 APR 1963)
Funeral services for Mrs. Albert Bruss, 80, who died at her home at Colby at
11:15 p.m. Friday, April 19, 1963, were held Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Church
at Colby at 2 p.m.
The Rev. Leroy A. Urman officiated at the services. Interment was made in the
North Spencer Cemetery. Pallbearers were Erwin Schmidt, Otto Manthe, Ervin
Greeler, Marvin Needler, Lester Bock and Donald Schwantes.
The funeral arrangements were made by the Lulloff Funeral Home of Colby.
The former Amelia M. Schwantes was born Feb. 24, 1883, in the town of Spencer,
Marathon County. She received her education at the North Spencer Parochial
School, and on Nov. 6, 1902, she and Albert Bruss were married at Spencer. The
couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year.
The couple operated a cheese factory in the town of Hull until 1926, when they
moved to the city of Colby.
Mrs. Bruss was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the church Ladies' Aid and
Sewing Circle. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Besides her husband, she is survived by all her children, Mrs. Evelyn Hahn, West
Allis; Mrs. Gladys Beaver, Hamburg; Mrs. Bernice Kresse, Milwaukee; Mrs. Anita
Bock, Allen Park, Mich.; and Elroy Bruss, Cedarburg.
There are also eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Greeler,
Neillsville; and Mrs. Linda Nedler, Granton; and three brothers, Arthur
Schwantes of Minneapolis; Harry Schwantes, Florida; and Ray Schwantes.
Four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
