Westaby, Gerald R. “Butch” (24 September 1944 - 16 November 2012)

Gerald R. “Butch” Westaby, 68, of rural Stanley, died Friday, November 16, 2012 at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Stanley. He was born on September 24, 1944, to the late James and Gladys (Hurley) Westaby. Butch grew up in the area and married Merideth Mallo on December 4, 1965, in Hannibal. The couple farmed in the Town of Taft, Taylor County their whole life.

Butch loved his cows, was an avid Packers fan, was hard working, often helping his neighbors and friends, enjoyed his John Deere tractors and his Chevy trucks, but most importantly, love being with his family and grandchildren. He was a wonderful grandpa and would do anything for his family.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Merideth; one daughter, Tanya (Jeff) Asproth of Osceola; one son, Todd (Emily) Westaby of Chippewa Falls; five grandchildren: Ben, Jake and Lily Westaby, Brady and Abby Asproth; four sisters: Betty Morrissey of Des Plaines, IL, Bernadean (Earl) Shilts of Stanley, Maxine (B9ll) Alger of North Branch, MN, and Joanne (Stanley) Rogowski of Roseville, MN; and five brothers: Richard “Pee Wee” (Lorraine) Westaby of Stanley, Bill (Patsy) Westaby of Coon Rapids, MN, Charles (Betty) Westaby of Stanley, Dale (Eve) Westaby of Schofield and Donald (Sandy) Westaby of Belgrade, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jennifer; and a brother, Douglas, in infancy.


Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley. Pastors Howard and Bonnie Weber officiated. Burial followed in Meadowbrook Cemetery, Gilman. Visitation was from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday at the Plombon Funeral Home and also one hour prior to services Tuesday.
