Smale, Georgia Ann (Marriage - 16 September 1967)
Miss Georgia Ann Smale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Smale of Neillsville, was
escorted by her father to the altar of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he gave
his daughter in marriage to Richard Louis Zank, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Zank
of Neillsville, in a nuptial rite performed Saturday by the Rev. George M.
Nelson.
Ellis Wall sang, “On This Day” and “Ave Maria.”
The bride wore a floor-length satin gown the skirt of which was fashioned with a
detachable over-skirt flowing into a chapel-length train. The fitted bodice was
styled with a Sabrina neckline and long, tapered sleeves. The neckline and
Empire waist were enhanced with a trim of Venetian lace. A satin pillbox
headpiece held her three-tiered bouffant veil. She carried a cascade arrangement
of stephanotis, in which was tucked a handmade lace hanky made in 1882, given to
her by a relative.
Carrying crescent bouquets of white asters were the bridal attendants: Miss
Linda Graves of Madison, the maid-of-honor, and Miss Eileen Zank of Neillsville
and Miss Diane Gago of Phillips, the bridesmaids. They wore floor-length dresses
of royal blue crystal peau satin, with semi-sheath skirts accented by back
fullness. Venetian lace adorned the yokes.
Bill Zank of Neillsville was bestman. Groomsmen were Steve Drescher of
Neillsville and Anton Dern of Eau Claire. David Svetlik and Kenneth Carl, both
of Eau Claire were the ushers.
A reception followed in the church basement, with a wedding dinner served at
4:30 p.m.
The bride is a 1965 graduate of Neillsville High School, is a 1967 graduate of
the Taylor County Teachers College. She is a third grade teacher in St. Olaf’s
Catholic School in Eau Claire.
Her husband, also a 1965 graduate of Neillsville High School, has been playing
professional baseball with Pawtucket, R. I., a Cleveland Indian farm club. He
will attend the second semester of Wisconsin State University - Eau Claire and
will return to baseball in the spring.
