Kline, Leon (19 Aug 1924-25 Oct 2012)

Leon A. “Zip” Kline, 88, Loyal, passed away on the morning of Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at the House of the Dove, Marshfield. His funeral service was held at 5 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 28, at Life Tributes Funeral Home, Spencer. Rev. Joe Weiers officiated. Burial took place at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 29, in the town of Richfield Cemetery with final military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 54, Marshfield.

Leon Kline was born on Aug. 19, 1924, in Athens, the son of Ira and Laura (nee Gilbert) Kline. He served proudly in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge. He married Viola Hallowell on July 16, 1947. Sadly, Viola passed away on June 23, 1990. He later married Ruth Oestreich on Nov. 16, 1991, at the Loyal Methodist Church. She survives. His employment included working for the Soo Line Railroad in Marshfield, and he was a farm hand and custodial worker for Mid State Truck, Marshfield. His hobbies included fishing, feeding the birds that frequented his back yard, gardening and just working outside. Leon really loved taking road trips and visiting family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth, Loyal; his children, Bonnie (Al) Christensen, Shoreview, Minn., Jerrold (Jann) Kline, Big Lake, Minn., Daniel Kline, North Liberty, Iowa, and Faith (David) Schmidt, Marshfield; his grandchildren, Lisa Christensen, Christy Berg, Laura Duerr and Joshua Schmidt; his great grandchildren, Brandon, Briana, Brasia, Jonathon and Katherine. His step-children, Jim (Judy) Oestreich, Havasu City, Ariz., Bill Oestreich, Loyal, Michael (Jan) Oestreich, Eau Claire, David (Deb) Oestreich, Neillsville, Alice Sciezor, Hastigs, Minn., and Joyce Bittner, Marshfield; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Gerri) Kline, Rib Lake, and Robert (Agnes) Kline, Tomah; very special friends the Nelson family of Marshfield; along with many other relatives and friends.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Viola; a granddaughter, Jennie Berg; a sister, Irene Peterson; a brother, Paul Kline; a sister-in-law, Vivian Kline; a niece, Cindy Kline; a nephew, David Kline; a step-grandson, Eric Werni Jr.; and a step-granddaughter, Emma Bakken.
