Our substitute got cold feet and to avoide [sic] a fistic encounter with the
Editor we are compelled to once more take up the old burdens.
Scottland [sic] grows the thistel [sic],
England grows the rose,
Ireland grows the Shamrock,
But the Sheney grows the nose.
C. Guk called on H. Leonhart of Nasonville last Friday.
The W. Albrecht family spent Sunday at Fred Zuehlke’s.
Emil Lindow is busy hauling sand from Lindsey Creek which he intends to use for
a concrete floor in his basement, the coming summer.
Jim Quicker sold a horse to unknown parties one day last week.
Ike Rodgers of Chili had a call from his business partner of Neillsville Tuesday
in regard to the fur trade.
With these words “we are the people and must be respected” and accompanied by a
strong back and a weak brain a young fellow invaded the quiet village of Chili
last Friday and as the result the inhabitants are mourning the loss of their
champion, the pride of their heart and their only white man’s hope, but this
must be said to his credit, he did not give up the belt without a struggle.
Although the antagonist won the battle it was a dear bought victory. The first
round as near as can be learned was a draw, for a barn happened to be between
the two combatants. But tom cats and rattle snakes, the second round was a
corker. They cast all science to the winds and went at it in bull dog fashion.
The welder of iron tried by every hook and crook to get the upper hand, but the
other fellow who happened to be a product of Lynn delivered a solar plexus and
walked off with the belt and the victim’s scalp.
Oscar Franke made a business trip to Marshfield between trains,Tuesday.
