Torkelson, Edith (18 OCT 1882 - 6 JUN 1963)
Funeral services for Miss Edith Torkelson, 80, of Chicago, who died June 6,
1963, were held Saturday at the Polneszek Funeral Home, Abbotsford, where the
body lay in state that morning. The Rev. Douglas P. Oyan of the First
Presbyterian Church fo Marshfield officiated at the 2 o'clock services, during
which the Misses Dorothy and Muriel Kieser sang "The Lord is My Shepherd" and
Abide With Me." Miss Dorothy Kieser was also organist and accompanist.
The pallbearers for the interment, made in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery, were
Arvid Carlson, Ole Hanson, Peter Hanson, Ed Leichtnam, Louis Mauritz and Maurice
Thompson.
Edith Torkelson, the daughter of Anton and Christine Torkelson, was born Oct.
18, 1882 and was raised on a farm in the town of Mayville. She received her
education in the Abbotsford Schools. Her father died in 1908 and three years
later the farm was sold and she and her mother moved to the village of
Abbotsford.
For the past 30 years, Miss Torkelson was employed at the Lutheran Ladies' Home
in Chicago, where her death occurred.
Her only survivors are three nieces, the Misses Lena and Edythe Nelson and Miss
Agnes Abrahamson, all of Chicago, who came for the funeral.
