Bertz (O’Reilly), Ceceilia

Funeral services were held Monday morning in Berlin for
Mrs. Reuben Bertz, 62, a former Loyal resident, who died Wednesday, January 23
at 9:45 p.m. in the Berlin Hospital following a stroke.
The former Ceceilia O’Reilly was born on August 20, 1900
at Hortonville. She was the daughter
of Michael and Emma (Maass) O’Reilly.
She received her education at Sacred Heart Grade and High
School in New London. In 1917 the
family moved to a farm in the Granton area and she graduated from the
Neillsville High School. Mrs. Bertz
attended Neillsville Teacher’s Training School and Stevens Point Teacher’s
College. She later taught at
Franklin and Lyons Schools in this area.
On November 14, 1921, she was married to Reuben Bertz in
St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. They
farmed in the town of Loyal until 1953 when they moved to Berlin and have
resided there since.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bertz is survived by
eight daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Virginia) Bushnell, Lodi; Mrs. Josh (Rosemary)
Sanford, Reedsburg; Mrs. Edward (Marilyn) Bogdonovich, Greenwood; Mrs. Ivern
(Colleen) Kraeger, Hales Corners; Mrs. Max (Joann) Hayden, Azore Islands; Mrs.
Jerome (Darlene) Ot?way), Berlin; Mrs. Robert (Donna) Reeves, Neshkoro; and Mrs.
Gilbert (Deanna) Will, Fond du Lac; two sons, Robert, Loyal; and David, Withee;
and thirty-one grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Florence O’Reilly,
Marshfield; Mrs. Mary Yankee, Neillsville; Mrs. Reuben (Emma) Schultz, Shell
Rock, Iowa; six brothers, Thomas O’Reilly, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Francis
O’Reilly, Thiensville; Vincent O’Reilly, Milwaukee, Lawrence O’Reilly, Leonard
O’Reilly, and Basil O’Reilly, Marshfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son,
William, who died in March, 1961.
