Frome, Milford “Milly” Carl (9 SEP 1920 - 7 NOV 2012)
Milford “Milly” Carl Frome, formerly of Colby, passed away peacefully on
November 7, 2012, at his home in Evansville surrounded by his family.
Milly was born on September 9, 1920, in Colby, to Hugo and Emma (Stock) Frome.
He graduated from Colby High School and Wausau Technical Institute before
enlisting in the Navy in 1942, where he served as an aircraft mechanic.
On June 4, 1948, he married Elaine Witt of Colby, and they raised two daughters.
He worked as the maintenance foreman at Packaging Corporation of America in
Colby for 30 years. Like so many in his generation, he gave generously of his
time to help his community. He was a charter member and past Commander of the
VFW, Assistant Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department and held several offices
with Zion Lutheran Church.
After retiring, he and Elaine became Winter Texans and enjoyed the weather and
the grapefruit in Mission, Texas. In 1992, they moved to Evansville, to be
closer to their daughters and grandchildren, and attended many of their
grandchildren’s soccer games and volleyball matches. He was also active in the
Save Lake Leota effort.
Through the years Milly enjoyed many sports, but his true passion was the Green
Bay Packers. He attended games regularly from 1938 until at age 90 his knees
could no long carry him up the Lambeau field bleachers.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughters, Vickie of Beaver Dam, and Donna
(John Montgomery) of Madison and grandchildren, Kristin and Matt. He is preceded
in death by his parents; and his sister, Helen Katte of Sheboygan.
Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Colby.
