A reception in honor of the Freshman class was given Saturday evening, Oct. 6th, 1917, by the Sophomore class of Granton High School. In the receiving lines were the class officers, Rachel Cole, Gertrude Davis, Smith Davis, Frank Storm and Rose Kemmeter. Each freshman was given a green cap which they had to wear and their named was pinned on them. The room was decorated in red and yellow leaves and arches of the class colors, blue and gold. The program as follows was given by the Sophomores:

• America - Audience
• Flag Salute - Directed by Mr. Wood
• Vocal Solo - Caroline Davis
• Reading - Lucille Davis
• Piano Solo - Rose Kemmeter
• Vocal Duet - Rose Kemmeter and Rachel Cole
• Piano Duet - Mermel Wonser and Gertrude Davis
• Class Drill - Sophomore class
• Class Song - Sophomore class

Games were played and a light lunch was served.

The enrollment of the Sophomore class has been increased by a new student, Cecilia O'Riley, formerly a student of New London High School.

The Junior class called a meeting last week for the purpose of electing officers. The following officers were elected:

• President - Myrle Lee
• Eva Wegner - Vice President
• Secretary - Beulah Lee
• Treasurer - Nora Davis
• Sargent at Arms - W.D. Rausch.

The Junior Agricultural class is figuring balanced rations. They are having some difficulty in getting them to balance.

The Freshman class welcome a new scholar, Francis O'Riley, who previous to coming here attended the New London High School.

We wish to express our appreciation of the entertainment given last Saturday night which was a very pleasant event.

The Eighth grad literary society held their first social meeting Wednesday night, Oct. 10th. The following program was rendered:

• Piano - "Fifth, Nocturne" - Helen Baer
• Song - "Rocking in De Win" - Josephine Pietenpol, Amy Lee
• Poem - Vance Williams
• Book Report - "Sweet William" - Helen Downer

The eighth grad history class has set aside one day for current events and in carrying out this idea they have formed a club on the order of a newspaper club. Vance Williams has been elected editor, while the rest of the class will act as reporters. They will discuss current topics of general interest.

Mr. Mitchell of the University Extension department visited the high school department Friday.

The annual Fair and Carnival will be given the latter party of this month at the opera house. The date has not yet been decided upon. Committees on decorations, refreshments and entertainments have been appointed.
