The batchelors [sic] had a re-union at Chili last Saturday and after discussing
some important questions the following by-laws were adopted: First. Only use
cuss words when darning your socks. Second. Show your respects to widows and
young girls. Third. Make your escape if possible when an old maid is on your
trail. Fourth. Never interfere with anothers love affair. They also appointed a
committee to hang some of the newspaper reporters in the surrounding country
before their next meeting is held.
Since the bottom dropped out of the soap market a barker in a certain village
has announced to the public that hereafter every Saturday he will give two
shaves for five cents and throw in a 10 cent cigar for good measure.
It is not always the case that an inspector should go direct to the seat of war,
for if there happens to be some old milk cans and empty beer cases (?) not too
far off from his route, what is to hinder him from making an investigation if by
so doing he can throw the public off their guard and accomplish his business.
Chas. Bealer of Grand Rapids a brother of G. Bealer and Mrs. R. Guk, spend [sic]
a few days here visiting relatives.
A. Lindow is helping Louis Knoop haul logs.
It is reported that Will Guk who has spent the winter in a logging camp at
Tripoli will return home the latter part of the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Jensen were Chili callers last Saturday.
Harry Eide installed a new cheese vat in what is known as the Dankemyer factory.
