Steinke, Henry Robert (6 May 1899 - 5 October 1967)
Funeral services were held Monday from the United Church of Christ in
Neillsville for Henry R. Steinke, 67, Neillsville, who died here last Thursday.
The Rev. W. C. Koehler officiated. Burial was made in the Fairchild Cemetery.
Masonic services were held Sunday evening at the Georgas Funeral Home.
Henry Robert Steinke was born May 6, 1899, in Fairchild. His parents were the
late Fred and Augusta (Arndt) Steinke. He grew to manhood and attended schools
in the Fairchild area. He later attended a telegraphy school in Minneapolis,
Minn.
He lived in Fairchild and Granton areas for 37 years while he was employed by
the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1958. For the last two years
he had made his home in Neillsville.
His marriage to the former Margaret E. Santo took place on October 22, 1922, in
Milwaukee. She preceded him in death.
Survivors are two children, Mrs. Clarice Taylor of South Salem, N. Y., and
Dennis Steinke of Neillsville; and two brothers, Leo of Eau Claire and Emil of
Burlington, Wash. Three grandchildren also survive.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, F. & A. M., of Fairchild.
Pallbearers were: Herb Scheel, Roland Quicker, Al Mornow, Alvin Kuberra, Walter
Trimberger and Tony Varklick. “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden” were
sung by Mrs. Robert Peters, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.
People from away here for the funeral included: Mrs. Donald Traylor of South
Salem, N. Y.; Leo of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Layton Steinke of Rochester,
Minn.; Emil Steinke of Burling ton, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Emery C. Wilcox of
Kirkland, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gauy, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Varklick and Mr.
and Mrs. Alvin Kuberra of Fairchild; Roland Quicker and Walter Trimberger of
Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Kuckenbecke, Mrs. Robert and Mrs. Otto Boettcher and
Mrs. Adolph Wendt of Augusta and Harvey Bitter of Abbotsford.
