The 1897 Clark County Jail Museum (December Meeting - 2012)

The monthly membership and board of directors meeting of the 1897 Clark County Jail Museum was held at the Museum Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012.

The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were reviewed and accepted as presented. President Steve Roberts reported a grant of $5,000 was received from the Listeman foundation. Discussion included staffing for the Christmas Tour of Homes (Dec. 7 and 8 and additional decorating details.

A group of Boy Scouts was given a private tour in late November. The graphics for the “Images of Clark County” book will be going to the publisher this week. Harvey Pischer displayed a piece of the heating system that needed to be replaced due to corrosion. Gratitude was expressed for finding this problem before failure of the system. New acquisitions from Elaine Manley McKey and Bob Boysen were mentioned. Ms. McKey’s father operated a hardware store at the current O’Reilly Auto Parts store location.

After we adjourned the formal meeting, tables and clutter were removed in preparation for the Tour of Homes.

There is a lot to do at the museum, and if anyone with a special interest in local history or photographs or other items, is welcome to help out as little or as much as he or she would like to! Call any of the officers or the Museum office (715-743-2150) to help out, for a tour or to do some research on local history or families. The Museum’s website (www.1897clarkcountyjailmuseum.com) and Facebook page is available at: (www.facebook.com/1897CCJM). Scanned photos and research materials are being inventoried and listed on the website.

The next membership meeting, open to the public as always, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Museum, 215 East Fifth St. Neillsville. Come on by!
