Fryer, Belle (18 September 1885 - 15 October 1967)
Mrs. Belle Fryer, 82, formerly of Merrillan and Black River Falls, died October
15, in San Jose, Calif. She had been in ill health for several months.
Mrs. Fryer was born September 18, 1885, in Merrillan, the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Lewis B. Johnson. She was graduated from Merrillan High School in 1903. She
worked for newspapers in McMinnville and Ashland, Ore., and was employed by the
Wisconsin Leader in Merrillan for a number of years, where she served as part of
the time as local editor. She was a past matron and a 50-year member of the
Merrillan Order of Eastern Star.
She married Ernest J. Fryer on March 14, 1916. They farmed in Garden Valley
(Jackson Co.) until 1941, when they moved to Black River Falls and operated a
motel and service station. Mr. Fryer died June 18, 1953. For the last few years
Mrs. Fryer made her home with her daughter in San Jose.
She is survived by a daughter, Lottie Ruth of San Jose; four nieces and one
nephew.
Services were held last Thursday from the Merrillan Methodist Church, the Rev.
Calvin Carey officiating. The Order of the Eastern Star rites also was held.
Burial was made in Oakwood Cemetery at Merrillan.
