Autio, Marion Mae (26 December 1926 - 19 December 2012)

Marion M. Autio, age 85, of Rockton, IL, died at the Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI, on Wednesday, December 19, 2012. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. on December 22, 2012, at Sylvan Cemetery, rural Thorp, with Rev. Paul Bittner officiating.

Marion Mae Mattes was born on December 26, 1926, in Thorp, WI, the daughter of Harold and Hazel (Frese) Mattes. She was raised and received her education in the Thorp area, graduating from Thorp High School in 1944. Marion was united in marriage to George E. Autio on September 25, 1948, in Thorp, WI. Marion owned and co-managed the Silver Dollar with her husband, George. She and George lived in Rockford, IL, Fond du Lac, WI, and finally in Rockton, IL, where George retired in 1992.

Marion was an energetic, generous and feisty cowgirl who enjoyed bowling, cribbage, reading, watching Packer games and visiting with her family and friends. She made the world a better place with her infectious laugh, positive attitude, and sense of humor. Marion will be missed dearly by her family, many loving friends and neighbors.

Survivors include her daughters: Georgia Autio of Shorewood, WI, and Pam Autio of West Allis, WI; three grandchildren: Jennifer Kolze and Jesse Williams of Mazomanie, WI, and Scott Williams of West Allis, WI; three great-grandchildren: April, Cassidy, and Ryne; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Mattes of Thorp, WI; and two nieces: Sheree Mattes (Dan Erdmann) of Maple Lake, MN, and Shirlee (Jerry) Hodorowski of Thorp, WI.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; and one brother, Clarence Mattes.
