Richard “Dick” Shefchik, 74, Marshfield, died on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012,
surrounded by his family at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 21, at St.
John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield. Rev. Samuel Martin will officiate and music
will be provided by St. John’s Church Funeral Choir. Burial will take place in
St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Loyal. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren,
Justin, Nathan, and Logan Russell, Katie and Kory Mueller, Spencer and Megan
Shefchik, Skyler O’Day and Cevelia Shefchik. Visitation will be held on
Thursday, Dec. 20, from 4-7 p.m., at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and on
Friday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at St. John‘s Catholic Church. A
Knights of Columbus rosary service will be held on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., at the
funeral home.
Richard Shefchik was born on Dec. 30, 1937, in the town of Beaver, Clark County,
to Emil and Hildegarde (nee Renz) Shefchik. He attended Loyal schools. He
married Diann M. Molle on April 26, 1958, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church,
Loyal.
As a young man, he farmed and was a cheesemaker. He then worked for Highway
Pavers Inc. of Milwaukee from 1964-86. He was last employed at Roehl Granite
Inc. in Mosinee until 1999. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, storytelling and
playing cards. He raced stock cars and enjoyed snowmobiling. Dick loved visiting
with family and friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, John Sisen
Council #1799.
He is survived by his wife, Diann; their four children, Doris (Gary) Russell,
Hancock, Dawn (James) Mueller, Milwaukee, David (Laureen) Shefchik, Union, Ky.,
and Don (Maureen) Shefchik, Wisconsin Rapids; nine grandchildren; three brothers
and three sisters, Edward Shefchik, Angeline (Daryl Wendt) Gregory, Raymond
(Ruth) Shefchik, Jean (Larry) Menehan, Joan (Dave) Abbott, and Emil “Jr” (Sue)
Shefchik, a sister-in-law, Mary Shefchik; and three brothers-in-law, Jack Welch,
Milton (Nan Jean) Molle and Jack (Emily) Molle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer Shefchik and
Lawrence (Nina) Shefchik; a sister, Eleanor Welsh; and his in-laws, Henry and
Louella Molle.
