Four Killed When Car Is Hit By Train
Atwood, Wis. - Four persons were killed Sunday when their automobile was struck
by a Soo Line passenger train at a railroad crossing here.
The dead: Otto Krueger, 64, Colby township, Clark county; Mrs. Otto Krueger, 53;
Arthur Krueger, 32, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Otto Krueger, Colby; Mrs. Arthur
Krueger, 34.
The two Krueger families, who operated a farm in Colby, were on their way to
visit friends at Greenwood and had only driven few miles from their home when
the accident occurred.
Witnesses said that the train whistle was blown but the automobile occupants
evidently did not hear it. The car was dragged about 250 feet before the train
could be halted. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Krueger were thrown out, but the elder
Kruegers remained in the car.
Coroner H. L. Brown, of Neillsville, said he would call an inquest.
