Mrs. Leo Moench went home to Pine Island, Minn. last Friday.
G.E. Amidon was at Marshfield on business on Wednesday.
Mrs. Gus Hagen went to Neillsville Tuesday to visit her parents.
Mrs. Floyd Winn was a Neillsville visitor on Monday.
Mrs. Joss. Sneberk of Neillsville was over on shopping bent on Monday.
Chas. Chapel autoed over from Marshfield on business on Tuesday.
A.B. Marsh of Neillsville called on town friends Friday.
Mrs. Devine, who has been visiting at Dr. Murphy's, went home to Parnell last
Friday.
The auction at Wm. Zorn's last Tuesday, postponed from last week Thursday, was a
huge success.
Mrs. Sorenson of Chicago, after a visit at A.L. Williams' on route 2, went home
on Monday.
Mrs. Chas. Lowery is gradually recovering from her recent severe illness.
Miss Lytle of Ogdenburg came last Saturday and visited her cousin Mrs. Leonard
Cole until Wednesday.
Mrs. Frances Woodward of Neillsville spent Wednesday here with Mrs. Gustie
Breed.
Mrs. E.R. Wonser entertained the Circle on Wednesday.
Vernon Wright went to Adams Thursday on a visit to Clarence Strand.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jackish of Dubuque had a brand new daughter born to them
late last month.
Hon. John J. Esch of La Crosse was a guest of the Baers at dinner, Tuesday.
Arno Ross was at Marshfield on business, Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cole were Marshfield visitors on Saturday.
Walter Sternitzky of route 2 went to Appleton Thursday.
Rev. Jarrett L. Smith of the Christian Church came from Minneapolis Saturday and
was an over Sunday guest in the Mike Dorst home.
Mrs. Geo. Hazelhuhn of Rice Lake and Mrs. R. Michalson of Mt. Horeb, after a 5
days visit at H.A. Qualley's on route 4, went home on Friday.
Maymie Gardner is reported to be getting along very nicely at the Eau Claire
hospital. Her mother remains with her and assisting in her care.
Miss Sylvia Paulson of Lindsey took the train here last Friday for Pierre, S.D.,
where she is teaching in a rural school this year. Her dad Chris Paulson autoed
in with her and saw her off from here.
Mrs. Albert Manthey was a Marshfield visitor Friday, going over to take
treatments in hope of bettering her hearing.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hefty Sr. accompanied their daughter Mrs. Harry Cattanach and
the latter's children, home to New Miner, last week Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Zielsdorf and daughter Ella, and Mrs. T.H. Bredlau of Wilton,
are visiting relatives in the A.F. Zielsdorf family at Spokeville since last
Friday.
Mrs. Mary Hubing returned home late last week from Chicago and her visit at
various Wisconsin points.
Mrs. Harry Feorand and daughter Maxine of Black River Falls visited the Adolph
Hogenson family here two weeks ago.
P. Batchelder and son C.A. Batchelder, with D.J. Cummings, all of Wheeler, after
a visit with R. Wilson at Plymouth, came here two weeks ago and visited Mr. and
Mrs. George Wilson.
The Mesdames Richard Kurth, Leo Moench and Will Kurth, with the latter's little
daughter Norma, enroute home from their auto trip to New York, arrived here by
rail last week Thursday evening. They left Will and Richard Kurth with the car
in a rain storm and with heavy roads at Oshkosh. The boys drove through, arrived
quite G.K. on Saturday. All report a most interesting and thoroughly enjoyable
trip.
Mrs. Jack Free of Shanghai, China, after a seven months absence from home and a
two month visit here with her sister Mrs. Justin Johnson and their mother Mrs.
McMahon, left for Canada two weeks ago today, and after a short visit there,
will join Miss Kate Erdner at Portland, Oregon, her partner's home. The two
ladies are expecting to embark on the 31 day ocean trip about the 26th of this
month.
The Misses Haidee and Daphne Beeckler, Ora and Gertrude Davis, with Mrs. Clark
Waterman and Helene, were Neillsville visitors on Saturday.
Geo. And Will Fabian of Williams Bay came last week Thursday and attended the
funeral of their brother Clarence's child, who burned to death on Tuesday. They
left for home again on Saturday.
Attorneys Victor Nehs and A.L. Devos of Neillsville were here on professional
business Wednesday morning.
Miss Esther Grassman came home from Ilo, N.D. last Saturday, accompanied by her
little niece Maxine Miner, on an extended visit.
Mr. and Mrs. L. Stevens are home from a couple weeks visit with relatives at
Spokeville, Spencer and Veefkind, since Saturday.
Miss Ruth Huntzicker went home to Greenwood Saturday and made an over Sunday
visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Huntzicker.
The Mesdames G.E. Amidon, E.W. Crandall, R.R. Rath and H.E. Schoengarth were
Marshfield visitors on Saturday.
Ethan Peterson came home from Stevens Point with his right foot in a hospital
shoe and walking with the aid of a crutch, the result of a ball sprain of his
right ankle suffered in a football game at the Normal two weeks earlier. He
returned there to resume his studies again on Monday.
Vernon Wright, who ahs been with the Will Huff family at Cadillac, Canada for
months past, is home from there since Saturday. He has plans for enlisting in
Uncle Sam' Navy now.
Mrs. Carl Braatz and little daughter Helen left for Sioux City, Iowa last Friday
on a visit to Henry Fischer and family in that city.
Mrs. Chas. Campbell of Neillsville spent much of last week with her daughter
Mrs. Frank Rogers in the town of York.
Mrs. Arthur Kurth and little son, with Miss Elsie Kurth, went to Unity Monday on
a couple days visit to the former's parents residing there. They will also visit
at H.A. Bleser's near Marshfield before returning home.
Harry Davis, under treatment for eye trouble and upon advice from an eye
specialist who performed an operation on his eyes late last week, came down from
Minneapolis Tuesday to spend the balance of the week ehre with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Davis.
F. Fehrmann of La Grange, Ill., a brother-in-law of Louis Elmhorst of Maple Leaf
Dairy Farm in East Lynn, was up last week and on Friday closed a deal for the
Oscar Eberhardt farm on route 1, better known as the old Agin farm.
Mrs. Frank suter and baby Donald and her sister Miss Hattie Lautenbach, with
Mrs. Julius Rudolph and little daughter Margaret, all of Milwaukee, are here
since last Friday on a two week visit at the home of the former's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Lautenbach on route 4.
A.D. Stockwell of Michigan, returning from a trip to Erie, S.D., visited his
niece, Mrs. F. J. Baer, the first of the week and left for Chicago Tuesday where
he is now visiting a son residing there.
D.H. Hillman of Chicago, accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Henry Sternitzky, left
here Thursday morning for Jackson, where they will visit among relatives for a
week or so.
A school basket social will be given Friday evening, Oc. 26th at the schoolhouse
in District No. 3, Fremont, with Miss Beth Free Teacher, to which all are
cordially invited. Ladies will please bring baskets.
Miss Esther True of Hatfield came Saturday and visited at E.A. Beeckler's until
Sunday evening when she went home by auto and her parents who came up for a
visit on Sunday.
Chas. Hubing, who left her last spring, enlisted at Beach, N.D., and is now in
training at Charlotte, N.C. He expects to be on his way to France soon.
Mrs. Poeppel and son Joe of Loyal took the train here Monday for Cashton where
they attended the funeral of a relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. John Martin went to Milwaukee Monday that he might be treated by a
specialist and where they will probably spend the winter with the John Martin
family.
Mr. and Mrs. Striggle of Cando, N.D., enroute to Chili Tuesday, exchanged
pleasantries with old friends at the depot here that morning.
Mrs. Mattie Williams came up from Junction City Monday evening and is spending
the balance of the week here with her daughter, Mrs. W.F. Dahlke.
Albert Riedel and Frank Roehl, two of Granton's drafted boys now at Camp Grant,
Rockford, Ill., are holding down first chairs in the selective men's band. They
were the successful 30 out of 10, 000 would be musicians examined. Albert plays
a cornet and Frank a trombone. Albert too has been made a corporal in the band.
Judge Edwards of Oconomowoc, who own 700 acres of land in the town of Sherwood
and 80 acres in York, came up last Saturday and remained until Monday evening
looking after his real estate interests here.
Horton & Galloway of Waupaca were up last Friday, and with W.S. Davis, Mr. and
Mrs. Herman Wegner, went to Neillsville and completed the deal they had on for
the purchase of the Forest House.
Walter Minett and family came up from Richland County last week to take
possession of their new home, the Wm. Zorn place on route 1.
Mrs. B.S. Hallock of Chili, enroute home from a trip down the line Tuesday,
greeted old friends at the depot here that day.
M.W. Hill of Weyauwega came up last Saturday and remained until Tuesday, a guest
of his son-in-law Victor Anthony on Route 3.
Miss Vila Barager of Stevens Point came Friday and remained, a guest of her
sister Miss iva Barager, until Tuesday.
Miss Beatrice Lezotte of Alma Center was up two weeks ago and visited her father
Wm. Lezotte here and the Arthur Wilding family on R. 4.
Mrs. Beth Squires and her sister Miss Amanda Machel went to Chicago Tuesday,
where they have employment, and expect to spend the winter.
Mrs. Park Sample and Mrs. Glen Snow drove over from Chili Tuesday and made some
pleasant calls among town friends.
Mike Billy is expected home from Waukesha where he has spent the past two weeks
under medical care and treatment, yet this week.
T. Hubing arrived here Monday from Union, Mont. for a few weeks visit with
relatives and friends.
