Bernice Haas, 91, of Stanley, passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at Oakbrook
Health and Rehab. Center-Thorp.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1921, the daughter of the late Henry and Johanna
(Sorenson) La Marche. She grew up in the area and graduated from Stanley High
School.
On Aug. 25, 1941 she was married to Melburn Haas at St. Anne’s Catholic Church
in Stanley. The couple lived in Thorp for a short time, then moved to the town
of Delmar where they farmed until retirement when they moved to the Town of
Thorp where they resided for 30 years.
Bernice was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Parish where she was a
member of the PCCW and also taught CCD classes for a number of years.
Bernice is survived by: her children, Roger (Lorelei) Haas of Chicago, Judy Kyle
of Grinnell, Iowa, Keith (Karen) Haas of River Falls, Gale (Carolyn) Haas of
Chippewa Falls, Terrance (Diane) Haas of Ham Lake, Minn., Ronald (Karen) Haas of
Stanley, Pamela (Robert) Westaby of Stanley and Patrick (Sarah) Haas of Stanley;
42 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and
sisters Wanda Schesel of Bloomer and Betty Headrick of Stanley. She was preceded
in death by: her husband Mel in 2008; two sons, Kenneth and Michael, twins in
infancy; a grandson, Kenneth Haas; a granddaughter, Lacey Westaby; sisters
Evelyn Gauger, Lorraine Thompson; and brothers Vernon and Wallace LaMarche.
Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic
Church, Stanley, with Fr. William Felix officiating. Burial will follow in the
parish cemetery.
Friends and family may call on Thursday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Plombon
Funeral Home, with a rosary being recited at 8 p.m.
