Mateofsky, John (3 JAN 1900 - 19 SEP 1963)
Funeral services for John Mateofsky of Marathon, formerly of Abbotsford, who
died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Sept. 19, 1963, at his home, were held
Saturday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marathon. The Rev. Lloyd
Geissler officiated at the requiem high mass at 10 o'clock, which was followed
by interment in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Mr. Mateofsky was born in Ashland Jan. 3, 1900. He grew up in the Abbotsford
area and was educated in the Rosedale school in the town of Holton and the
Abbotsford High School.
He was a cheesemaker and for a time worked at Schullsburg and later was engaged
in the Chevrolet business in partnership with Al Notbohm at Abbotsford. He also
was a business partner with his brother-in-law, Fred Toelle, in operating the 13
& 29 Club.
After leaving Abbotsford he was employed by the Medford Brewery for a few years
and then went to Marathon and was in the employ of the Marathon City Brewing
Co., from which he retired.
He is survived by hsi wife, the former Alva Hana, whom he married April 5, 1925,
at Medford, and two daughters, Mrs. Nila Kaltenberg of Madison, and Mrs. Robert
(Iris) Goldbach of Marathon, and one grandchild.
Two sisters, Mrs. Fred Toelle of Abbotsford and Mrs. Joseph Schefsick of
Chippewa Falls also survive.
