F. H. DARLING, carpenter, Unity, born in
Chenango Co., NY, June 10, 1833. His parents went to Cortland
County when he was only four years old, where his father, who was a
carpenter, worked at his trade. The son learned the same trade and
worked with his father till 1855. He then went to Canada and from
there came to Portage County. He enlisted in the 8th Wis. Battery
served till 1865 re-enlisted at Nashville, but returned to Waupaca
County. In 68, went to Amherst, and in the Fall of '72 took up a
homestead, and now the village occupies part of it. He now follows
his trade and jobbing in the woods. In 1869, he married Miss Ellen
Lee, of Portage County. They have five children Francis E., Ellen
M., Elsie G., Etta H., and Maggie M. He has been on the Board of
Supervisors and is now Treasurer of Town of Brighton. Belongs to I.
O. O. F.
