Jackson County, Wisconsin, by Franklyn, Curtiss-Wedge
ALBERT WELSH has been identified with the
agricultural interests of Clark County since 1869, at which time
his residence here began. He is a native of Orange County, New
York, born December 9, 1845. His parents, Uriah and Rhoda (Kilburn)
Welsh, were also natives of the Empire State, but emigrated to
Illinois in the year 1848, settling in De Kalb County where the
mother died, and one year later the surviving members of the family
removed to Dodge County, Wisconsin, where the father passed the
remainder of his days. He was a millwright by trade, and followed
this occupation the most of his life. Three children were born to
Uriah and Rhoda Welsh: J. H., a farmer residing in Loyal Township
an infant unnamed, and Albert, the subject of this notice. He
passed his youth and early manhood in Dodge County, Wisconsin,
receiving practical training in the art of husbandry. He acquired
his education in the common schools of the day.
When the Rebellion arose, and men all over this country forsook
their trades and professions, Mr. Welsh was not slow to show his
loyalty and patriotism. He enlisted in 1864 in the Forty first
Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, Comlpany C, and served 100 days. At
the expiration of this time he re-enlisted in Company B.,
Fifty-second Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and served until the
close of the war. He was mustered out at Fr. Leavenworth, Kansas,
and received his final discharge at Madison, Wisconsin, in
September 1865. He participated in engagements in Tennessee,
Missouri, Mississippi and Kansas.
Politically he adheres to the principle of the Republican party. He
is a member of the C. H. Gill Post, G. A. R., at Loyal, and belongs
to the Modern Woodmen of America.
Mr. Welsh was united in marriage July 3, 1870, to Miss Zeete A.
Mowry. She was born in Harford, Washington County, Wisconsin,
February 20, 1849, and is a daughter of John B. and Melvina S.
(Churchill) Mowry. Seven children have been born to Mr. and Mrs.
Welsh: Burton U., Abion E., Jennie M., Fred J., Kittie B., Floyd
E., and Rollie.
