Nearly 4,600 graduates received degrees from Iowa State University this spring. Graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremonies were held May 11-13 at Hilton Coliseum.

The graduate student from Clark County was Kaitlin Artac of Greenwood with a master’s of science, biomedical sciences.

The spring semester dean’s list, at the UW-River Falls was released by Registrar Kelly Browning. It honored 1,461 students.

To be named to the dean’s list, a fulltime undergraduate must earn a GPA of at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0, or midway between an “A” and “B” average.

Recipient was Dayne Loberg of Neillsville, majoring in accounting.

Clark Co-UW-Madison (Dean’s List - 2023)

The UW-Madison has recognized students named to the dean’s list for the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year.

Students who achieve at a high level academically re recognized by the dean at the close of each semester. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must complete a minimum of 12 graded degree credits in that semester. Each university, school or college sets its own GPA requirements for students to be eligible to receive the distinction.

Clark Co-UW-Stevens Point (Honors - 2023)

The UW-Stevens Point honored more than 2,000 undergraduate students for attaining high GPAs during the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year.

Fulltime undergraduates who earned GPAs of 3.9 to 4.0 are given the highest honors designation. High honor citations go to those with GPAs from 3.75 to 3.89 and honor recognition is accorded to those with GPAs from 3.5 to 3.74.

Personalized certificates of scholastic achievement are sent to those who earned highest honors distinction.

Those who received honors include Danielle Ley, a senior, received high honors and Cole Minsaas, a senior, received honors; both of Chili.

Allie Grippentrog of Curtiss, a junior, received highest honors.

Lutz, Robert James, Jr. “Jim” (18 April 1959 – 6 June 2023)

Robert “Jim” James Lutz Jr., 64, of Abbotsford, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

Jim was born on April 18, 1959, in Chicago to Robert and Rosemarie (Burke) Lutz. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and caring for his pigeons. He always told people that his biggest achievement and accomplishment was having children.

He is survived by his children, Raven James Lutz of Springfield, Illinois and Sara Elizabeth Rose Lutz of Chicago, Illinois; his sister, Jennifer; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Gretchen Hentges; and his brother, Phillip Lutz.

Grieser, Gary Allen (14 July 1947 – 9 June 2023)

Gary Allen Grieser, 75, of Spencer, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family.

Gary was born to Elmer and Darlene (Viegut) Grieser on July 14, 1947, in Stratford. He began his education at Ludington School, a one-room schoolhouse in Halder. He graduated from Mosinee High School and went on to earn an associate degree in marketing from North Central Technical College.

On April 18, 1970, he married the love of his life, Karen Ramker. What began as a blind date led to 53 years of marriage, including three children, three grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren. Family was the center of Gary’s life and a source of endless joy for him.

Gary worked at Weyerhauser/Marshfield Door as a hardware specialist in a career spanning 43 years. He was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he spent countless hours serving in various offices. For more than 50 years, he volunteered at First Choice Credit Union, serving on the Audit Committee since 1973 and on the board of directors since 1991.

Gary enjoyed woodworking and tackling DIY projects. He loved hunting, camping, birdwatching, gardening, reading, and spending time at the family cottage in Philips over the last 30 years. He also enjoyed playing cards and had a reputation for being a cribbage master. He was a devoted dad and grandpa who cherished the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; their children, Krisan (Grant) Strejc of Marshfield, Kathy (Scott) Kindberg of Spencer, and Keith Grieser (Andrea Price) of Dalton, GA; his sisters, Lynell Grieser and Sandy (Ben) Lemens; and sisters-in-law, Arla Voss, Marlene (Galen) Schreiber and Barb Ramker. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Alek Glenzer and Zak and Ali Kindberg; step-grandchildren, Gineva, Jerry and Gavin Strejc; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ken, and infant son Kevin.

Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Spencer, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023, with visitation from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Randy Ramker, Darren Voss, Bart Schreiber, Chad Grieser, Travis Hardrath, and Allen Jicinsky.

If desired, Gary’s family is requesting memorials in his honor to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Spencer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman will officiate, and burial will follow in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Dux, Jean Bowe, Maynard Bowe, Wayne Doebele, Cookie Doebele, and Chuck Butterbrodt. Visitation will be held at the church, on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Singstock, Ermine O. (3 January 1926 – 16 June 2023)

Ermine O. Singstock, age 97, of Abbotsford, passed away on June 16, 2023, at Abbotsford Health Care Center under the loving care of Compassus Hospice.

Ermine was born on January 3, 1926, the daughter of George and Anna (Dommer) Orth in Abbotsford. She graduated from Abbotsford High School. On October 12, 1946, Ermine was united in marriage to Roy Singstock. He preceded her in death in 1967.

Ermine worked in Milwaukee and Weinbrenner Shoe Factory in Marshfield. She enjoyed her flower garden, watching and feeding the birds, crafting and playing cards. Most importantly, she loved and cherished her family.

Ermine is survived by three children: Ann Marie (Dean) Loos of Colby, William Singstock of Schofield and Daniel (Debra) Singstock of Weston; eight grandchildren: Dawn (Bruce) Brossow, Mary Olson, Bradley Loos, Codey Loos, Brenda Singstock, Rhonda Singstock, Melinda (Josh) Thompson and Candice (Jesse) Roble; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia; a great-grandson, Ayden; two brothers and two sisters: Marie, Myron, Marge and Raymond.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Saint Mary Help of Christian Parish in Colby at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Father Joseph Redfern will officiate. A visitation will be held at church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

Tysver, Mary A. (11 November 1939 – 17 June 2023)

Mary A. Tysver, age 83, Chili, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at her home in the Town of Fremont, Clark County.

Mary was born on November 11, 1939, in Dodge County, Wisconsin to Edgar and Opal (Fry) Green.
She was united in marriage to Darwin O. Tysver on December 28, 1957, at Christ Lutheran Church, Chili.

Planting flowers and crocheting were a couple of Mary’s hobbies. She crocheted many Afghans, doll dresses, and many other items. Living on the farm was her life. It was a hard life, but she wouldn’t have it any other way. Her world was her husband, Darwin, and her children. At Christmas and special occasions her house was filled to the brim with family. She held a special place in everyone’s heart.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Darwin O. Tysver, Sr. and their children, Joan (Jeff) Gotter, Darwin, Jr. (Barb) Tysver, Calvin Tysver, Mark (Donna) Tysver, Steven (Chris) Tysver, Sondra (Terry) Baierl and Mandie (Rob) Scholl. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, Tracy, Ashley, Jess, Stevana, Nick, Cole, Dustin, Amber, Jonah, Dalton, Mason, Dawson, Autumn, Austin, Peyton, Brynlie, Matthew, Jessica, Marah, Morgann, Rhiannon, Miranda, Isaiah, Evan, Zane, Addylinn and Raynna, 29 great grandchildren, Jade, Carter, Jaxon, Shyla, Jordynn, Jenna, Taylor, Olivia, River, Tucker, Aiden, Lillian, Hannah, McKinlee, Vincent, Evelyn, Andrew, Ava, Abbie, Alexa, Adam, Alec, Ace, Brennan, Breeleigh, Colt, Remington, Oakley, and Grayson, and two great-great grandchildren, Sophia and Kinzleigh. She is further survived by siblings, LaRetta Massey, Patricia (Mark) Jacobs, Ed (Sandy) Green, and Shirley (Terry) Jahn, brother-in-law, Harvey Fry, sisters-in-law, Jennette Kisling, Evon (Mike) Gilstrap and Janet Tysver.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Opal, her in-laws, Clinton and Evelyn Fry, her beloved son Mark, brothers, Arthur and Donald, sister, Susie, brother-in-law, James, sisters-in-law, Rita and Barb, and grandchild, Jammie Joe.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, where a gathering for family and friends will be from 10:00 am until service time. Rev. Chris Schwanz will officiate.
