GOTTLEIB
MEINHOLDT, who died in Eaton Township, July 9, 1905, was known as
an early settler in that township, a man who had done good pioneer
work as a logger and farmer. He was born in Saxony, Germany, and
was reared in his native land where he married Wilhelmina Reindorf.
A cooper by trade, he thus gained his living in Germany until he
and his family emigrated to the United States, locating at
Franklin, Sheboygan County. There two more children, Gustave and
Emma, were born to him. In 1879 he bought eighty acres of wild land
in Sections 7 and 8, Eaton Township, on which tract he built a log
house and barn, but having no stock, or anything on which to live,
he went to work in the woods for Mr. Withee, as also did his sons.
After being thus occupied for two winters, he gave up that kind of
work, as it was too hard for a man of his age, and thenceforth did
what he could towards clearing the farm. Before his death he lived
to see forty acres cleared. His wife died in West Salem, Wis. Two
children, Bernhardt and Anna, were born in Clark
County.
