Hugoboom, Solomon (1874)


Lumberman, farmer and liveryman. Came to Dorchester in 1874 and built a large hotel called "The Central House," that same year. He conducted business there until 1889. Then he went into farming and carried on a livery business on 260 acres of land which he owned in Clark County along with another 320 acres in Marathon County and village property in Dorchester. He married M. Woodin of Munson, Ohio. They had four childre: Eva, Flora, Ray and Charley. Eva married E. Swartout of Dorchester and had two children. Flora married Orville VanDussen of Phillips, Price and Co. Ray lived in Dorchester and was the publisher of the local newspaper for many year and always claimed to be the second white child born in the town of Dorchester.
