Distelhorst, Fred (1860)
Mr. Fred Distelhorst, a merchant, was born in Hanover, Germany July
25, 1860. Immigrated to Sheboygan Co. 1865, settling in woods with
parents helping to clear 100 acres. Went to Chicago 1879, attending
evening school, worked as a carpenter for 3 years, later in a
creamery. Came to Dorchester in 1886 establishing a creamery. Built
a store, keeping a general stock of merchandise. He shipped his
butter to Ashland, giving the farmers the market price at that city
without asking pay for his work in making it. Installed a churn run
by steam power--in summer months churned every day, cooler weather
not so often. Married Phillipine Boerger, Oct. 28, 1882.
