Jacob and Anna (Bruchert) Steager Wed June 28, 1899.


Jacob Steager was born 1873, in Mossbach, Baden, Germany. He emigrated to the United States in 1888 and eventually settled in Glenwood City , Wisconsin. He was working for the sawmill at the time of his marriage to Anna Bruchert on June 28, 1899, in the township of Hixon. Their wedding was the first performed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee, Hixon Township, Clark County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of August and Albertine (Markens) Bruchert of Lasbeck, Poticon, Germany. At the time of her marriage she had been living in the United States of America for 16 years, having arrived in 1883. Fred and Ida Bruchert served as their witnesses. In 1912, Jacob and Anna settled in Withee where they purchased 40 acres of land from the Dairy Belt Land Company for $900.00. They had two children (Peter & Otto). He died Jan. 19, 1952, and Anna passed away Nov. 29, 1961. They are buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Withee, Wisconsin.
