Short's 50th Jubilee Celebrated at Neillsville

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Short of route 4, whose 50th wedding anniversary will fall Wednesday, celebrated the occasion Saturday, with members of the immediate family who were all dinner guests at their home.

Jan. 30 is not only their anniversary date but also the 23rd anniversary of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Matousek, West Allis, and the 19th birthday of the latter couple's son Duane, now with the armed forces in Korea.

For the anniversary event, Mrs. Short wore a corsage of yellow rose buds, and her husband had a white carnation boutonniere.

Mr. Short was born December 11, 1884 on the home farm of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Short, in the town of Washburn Township, Clark County, Wisconsin. He was educated in the the Shortville School and worked with his father on the farm, where he was married Jan. 30, 1907, to Miss Dessa Payne.

The bride was born in Richland County on September 6, 1885, to Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Payne, and attended schools in Shortville and Gays Mills. The family moved first to Shortville, then to Gays Mills and returned to Shortville when she was 20 years old.

Aside from nine years at Baraboo and Rochester, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Short have spent all their married life on the home farm, which was purchased from his father's estate. Both are still in good health, and continue to operate the farm.

Mr. Short also served for eight years as assessor of the town of Washburn.

Their family consists of two daughters, Mrs. Raynor (Marie) Vaughn, Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Louis (Helen) Matousek, West Allis; two sons, Kenneth Short, Neillsville, and Roger Short, West Allis; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A sister of Mrs. Short, Mrs. Pete Hereid of Alma Center, Wisconsin, who had attended her at her wedding 50 years ago, was among those attending the celebration.

Others present were Mr. Hereid; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Matousek, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Short and children and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Schmear and daughter, West Allis; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Short and family, Neillsville; Mrs. Verna Payne, Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. George Holub, Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short, route 4, and Miss Beverly Matousek, route 1, Neillsville, and Mr. and Mrs. James Tibbetts, Rockford, Illinois.
