Mercedes (Meinholdt) & Harry Liebzeit

The photo above was taken at the Berg Studio in Greenwood, although my records show they were married in Waukegan, Ill.  Harry's mother and my dad were were my first cousins.  I've been told that they are buried in the Liebzeit lot in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Memories

Harry was a Braun Settlement teacher from 1933 - 1936.  He was my first grade teacher. He had a rubber hose for disciplining students. I know because I was the recipient of that rubber gadget.  My crime was not coloring some leaves the color he'd mandated. So, in front of the whole Braun Settlement school, he put me across his knee and struck me several times with that hose. I don't recall him using it on any other students, that is about all I remember about first grade.  Why is it that a person remembers something like that and not the good things you learned in that grade?
