Cyril J. Alger

 

Cyril J. Alger  was the son of Jay and Mayme Alger. He enlisted in the US Army  as a Tec 4 in Company 3561 QM during WWII with a group from Thorp, Billy Huls, Willard Ustruck, and Murvil Vanderhyden amongst others.  After basic training he was sent to Louisianna to master the art of cooking and was chosen to cook for the Army officers. 

 He served in the Pacific, including Quam and Fiji Islands during the dropping of the bomb.  He told of stories of the officers quarters always a fun loving place to work and the Islands beautiful, but the days before the bomb dropped was quiet.   He always teased his kids that his hair was shot off during the war.

He was a member of the Cecil Tormey American Legion Post in Thorp, during 1962-63 he was a commander of the Post.

Cyril died in January of 1979 and was buried in New St. Hedwig's Cemetery, Thorp, Wisconsin.
