Lucy Beyerl Bauer was born on March 8,1898 daughter of John and
Barbara (Windmaisse) Beyerl. John was b July 5,1841 and d Jan 29,1917.
Barbara was b April 8,1854 and d Jan 22,1924. Veronica was born on
the family farm west of Colby, Wisconsin. and she was one of fourteen
children born to her parents. Her parents were originally from Bavaria
and emigrated with other relatives to Wisconsin around 1878. In the Colby Centennial Book
1873-1973 it states " John & Barbara Beyerl homesteaded in 1878. Around
1915 a son, Louis bought the farm. and in 1948 his son, Al, bought the
farm and as of the writing of the centennial book he and his wife, and
children continued to own and operate the original farm. The Beyerls were also
mentioned as living in a log cabin west of Colby." Veronica received her
education first at a one room school house and later at a German
Catholic school both in Colby, Wisconsin When she was a child her
father purchased a Beckwith organ and she learned to play the organ, an
accomplishment which stayed with her all her life. She worked at a cook in the
Colby Hotel before her marriage and was employed as a telephone operator
in Colby for 27 years. On November 27,1917 at St
Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, Wisconsin, she married Alphonse "Al"
Bauer. b Aug 1,1893 d Aug 31,1952. Al Bauer owned a successful
cement construction business. He was a WW I veteran serving as a
Private,316 Supply Co ,OMC. After the War he purchased a
home in Colby and Veronica lived in that home for 71 years where she
especially enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and
tatting. Alphonse and Veronica had
one child, Gertrude, who later married Harry Blackwood and they resided
in Marshfield, Wisconsin. They had three children Daniel, Patricia, and
Michael. Daniel married Mary Wampler. Patricia married Dan Hoffman.
Michael married Judy. At the time of Veronica's
death she had six great-grandchildren; Matt Blackwood, Michael
Blackwood, Scott Hoffman, Kris Hoffman Weitzel, and step great
grandchildren, Lisa Olson and Leslie Brown. She had the following great
great grandchildren; Ashely, Amanda, Hannah, Brennen, Madelyn, Patti,
Margaret, Danny, and Kai. She was also survived by a sister in law,
Margaret Beyerl of Filmore,Ca. She was proceeded in death
by her husband Alphonse,13 brothers and sisters and grandson in law, Dan Hoffman Veronica was an active
member of St Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mother's group, and the
Ladies Order of Catholic Foresters. She was also a member of Colby
Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Veronica lived at the
Marshfield Center the last two years of her life. Veronica died on her
birthday and was 106 years old. Veronica and her husband,
Alphonse Bauer are both buried in St Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in
Colby, Wisconsin. The Rev John Malik officiated at her funeral
service and her pallbearers were Dan Blackwood, Mike a Blackwood, Scott
Hoffman, Mike M Blackwood, Matt Blackwood and Gordon Schuster. Sources: Obituary from
