O-W Badger Boy, Scott Fritz returned home Saturday, June 24, 1978 from Ripon on an 8 day Citizenship experience with 1050 other Badger Boys.

There were boys there from all of Wisconsin, and it was really great to be able to meet and make new friendships. All Badger Boys wear white T-shirts and hats, and this was rather interesting to have this huge assembly of “look-a-likes” around you.

Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee was the setting of the 3:00 p.m. wedding on Saturday, June 24, 1978, which united Kim Christine Granquist, Owen, and Bruce A. Marcott, Curtiss, in marriage.

Officiating as the pastor was Rev. Lloyd Yaggie, with Jimmy Wagner as organist, Jeff Pearson and Laurie Zaborowski as soloists.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Granquist of Owen, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Marcott of rural Curtiss.

The bride wore a Dacron polyester gown with attached chapel train flounced hemline, trimmed with Chantilly lace and seed pearls. She wore a matching headpiece and veil edged with Chantilly lace, and carried a bouquet of yellow roses, stephanotis and baby’s breath.

Mrs. Ronda Kallberg, a friend of the bride, was her matron of honor, with Debra and Julie Granquist, sisters of the bride, standing with her as bridesmaids. They wore yellow cotton polyester print veil, peasants style gowns with flounced hemline, trimmed with satin ribbon sashes, and carried orange and yellow carnations, yellow roses and baby’s breath.

The groom was dressed in a white tuxedo, and was attended by Gregory Kallberg, best man, and Floyd Olson and Mike Friedenfels as groomsmen. They wore green tuxedoes. Ushers were Jim Sowieja and Joe Scidmore.

Following the ceremony was a dinner at 5:00 p.m., with a reception and dance from 8:00 to 12:00 in Curtiss Hall, Curtiss.

The bride is a 1977 graduate of Owen-Withee High School and a 1978 graduate of Mid-State Technical Institute in Marshfield in Medical Stenography.

The groom is a 1975 graduate of Owen-Withee, and in 1976 attended the Erv Malnarich Professional Guide and Outfitters School in Hamilton, Montana. He is now a carpenter for Utke Brothers of Curtiss.

The couple left on their wedding trip out west to Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado. They will make their home at 825, West Third Street in Owen.

Becky Dyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Dyer, Route 1, Curtiss, is among the names of 74 students which appear on the Dean’s List for second semester at Lakeland College, a Christian Liberal Arts College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

All students who have earned this distinction are full-time students enrolled in at least four courses and have earned the minimum equivalent of two A’s and two B’s.

Three more teachers from the Owen-Withee teaching staff have submitted their letters of resignation.

The first letter read was from Chris Rosenberg, fourth grade teacher at the Owen Elementary the last four years.

James Turnquist, high school social studies teacher, was the second, giving the reason that he was going into full time dairy farming.

The third letter of resignation was from the O-W band director, Richard Gregerson, was a shock to some board members.

The Owen-Withee class of 1958 held their 20th reunion on Sunday, July 2, 1978 at the Meadowview Country Club, with 72 classmates in attendance.

The evening started off with a cocktail hour at 7:00, followed by a delicious dinner of ham and chicken. Doug Missling said the prayer for us.

The program following the diner was MC’s by Arlyn Mills, administrator of the Clark County Health Care Center, who did an excellent job. He led the program for the 72 classmates and their spouses and six guests.

Special thanks and recognition was paid the committee who organized the reunion, including Arlyn Mills, Sandy Fritz, Chairman, Eileen Schreiber, Fern Wirtala and Charlotte Rinek.

He joined the Marine Corps in June 1977.

Leon and Betty Bruchert, Withee, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, July 25,1978 with an Open House receiving relatives, friends and guests from two to five o’clock at the Meadowview County Club. A social afternoon and refreshments were served, followed by the opening of many gifts, and a ham and chicken buffet supper.

Twenty-five years ago, Leon and Betty were married on July 25, 1953 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee, with the Rev. W. Clayton Nielsen performing the ceremony.

Mr. Bruchert, who has been employed at the State Bank of Withee for the past thirty years, graduated from the Withee High School and then served his country.

Betty Blunck Bruchert also graduated from the Withee High School, and was employed at the office of Will Implement Company from 1948 to 1960.
